WHY ORGANIC?

‘There’s nothing new or modish about organics - until 1950s, all the food we ate was organically produced. It’s organic food that should be considered “normal”, not the upstart, factory-farmed, agrochemical stuff...’

The Guardian 07/10/15 - Why Should I Eat Organic? Joanna Blythman

-

FEWER PESTICIDES

Pesticides are chemical compounds that are used to kill insects, fungi & weeds. Why eat them if you don’t have to? Nearly 300 pesticides can routinely be used in non-organic farming and are often present in non-organic food.

-

NO ARTIFICIAL COLOURS OR PRESERVATIVES

Only additives derived from natural sources, such as lecithin are allowed in organic food but no artificial colourings, flavourings or sweeteners. Hydrogenated fats, monosodium glutamate & aspartame are banned - with many of these substances linked to health problems.

-

GMO FREE

Organic food can’t be made using genetically modified crops. GMO crops have been genetically altered which is not natural. GMO free is mentioned on all our products.

-

NUTRITIONALLY DIFFERENT

Organic food can contain more vitamins, minerals & nutrients compared with non-organic food.

-

NO ROUTINE USE OF ANTIBIOTICS

Organic animals are reared without the routine use of wormers & antibiotics which are common with a non-organic rearing system. There is growing concern with antibiotic resistance which makes organic reared animals the superior option.

-

BETTER FOR ENVIRONMENT

Organic farming prioritises sustainable production respecting the country side.It is well noted that the insect pollution most notably, bees are decreasing rapidly from the use of chemicals in non-organic farming, bees are vital as pollinators for our food.
