why organic

When you choose organic food and drink, you choose products that promote a better world. Organic means working with nature. It means lower levels of pesticides, no manufactured herbicides or artificial fertilisers, higher levels of animal welfare and more environmentally sustainable management of the land and natural environment, which means more wildlife.

‘THERE’S NOTHING NEW OR MODISH ABOUT ORGANICS - UNTIL THE 1950S, ALL THE FOOD WE ATE WAS ORGANICALLY PRODUCED. IT’S ORGANIC FOOD THAT SHOULD BE CONSIDERED “NORMAL”, NOT THE UPSTART, FACTORY-FARMED, AGROCHEMICAL STUFF...’

10 REASONS TO CHOOSE ORGANIC

-

1: BETTER FOR THE ENVIRONMENT

Organic farming prioritises sustainable production, which is favourable to the environment & biodiversity. It is well noted that the insect pollution, most notably, bees are decreasing rapidly from the use of chemicals in non-organic farming, bees are vital as pollinators for our food.

-

2: FEWER PESTICIDES

Pesticides are chemical compounds that are used to kill insects, fungi & weeds. Nearly 300 pesticides can routinely be used in non-organic farming & are often present in non-organic food. Why eat them if you don’t have to? Choose organic.

-

3: NO ARTIFICIAL COLOURS OR PRESERVATIVES

Artificial colourings, flavourings, sweeteners & preservatives are not permitted in organic food, only additives derived from natural sources, such as lecithin are allowed. Hydrogenated fats, monosodium glutamate & aspartame will not be found in
organic food, either.

-

4: GMO FREE

GMOs (Genetically Modified Organisms) are not permitted in organic food production as they disrupt the natural growing cycle. GM crops pose a serious threat to farmer sovereignty & to the national food security of any country where they are grown. GMO-free is mentioned on all our products.

-

5: NUTRITIONALLY DIFFERENT

Organic food can contain more vitamins, minerals and nutrients compared with non-organic food.

-

6: NO ROUTINE USE OF ANTIBIOTICS

Organic animals are reared without the routine use of wormers and antibiotics which are common with a non-organic rearing system. There is growing concern surrounding antibiotic resistance, which makes organic animal products the superior option.

-

7: FOOD AS IT SHOULD BE.

-

8: HARMONY WITH NATURE.

-

9: PURE. SIMPLE. SUSTAINABLE.

-

10: WORKING WITH - NOT AGAINST NATURE

www.organictrust.ie/about/

We are part of The Organic Trust, which is the centre of excellence when it comes to organic inspection and certification in Ireland. Their logo appears on all of our products along with the EU Organic Logo.

The EU Organic Logo gives a coherent visual identity to European Union-produced organic products. This makes it easier for consumers to identify organic products and helps farmers to market them across the entirety of the EU. The organic logo can only be used on products that have been certified as organic by an authorised control agency or body.
